Is Coconut Sugar Paleo?

The Paleo diet is one of the diets you can get onto if you want to lose weight and get in the best shape of your life. It weeds out certain ingredients of food that causes cancer as well as putting more fat on your body.

A topic that does comes to mind is “Is Coconut Sugar Paleo?” If you want a quick and short answer to that question, then the answer is a resounding “yes.”

It is included in the diet because it was probably used back then. Plus there are number of benefits to using this ingredient. Often, coconut sugar is used as a sweetener and is something we can use to substitute for sugar.

Looking into Coconut Sugar

Coconut sugar is a natural kind of product that comes from coconut. And even though it does have saturated fat, it’s the good kind where your body will easily digest. It’s why the Paleo diet includes it in its approved ingredient list.

Compared to the regular refined sugar that’s commonly seen in supermarkets it is a better option. However, keep in mind that it is still sweet and has the ability to cause our blood sugar levels to spike, which isn’t a good thing when done too much too often.

So if you want to use coconut sugar while on paleo, by all means do so but treat it as something that should be used in moderation.

Using Coconut Sugar in Foods

One thing we learned is that not all sugars are alike. Just because coconut sugar has the sugar label does not mean that it tastes, acts or can be used like regular refined white sugar. There are differences so some getting used to and experimentation is needed to find out where and how to use coconut sugar.

For example, this type of sugar isn’t always compatible with certain food when cooking with it. I learned that frying it up with tomato and onion and that didn’t taste right. Sesame oil would be a better alternative when frying certain food combinations if you want to fry it.

Besides frying things up in the frying pan with the coconut sugar, you can replace butter and certain oil with the coconut sugar. It is affordable and are sold at many stores.

Even though it cost a bit more, it’s an even better alternative compared to refined cooking oils like canola, safflower, corn, cottonseed and soybean oil. Each one of them cause our body to get body fat because it’s not as easily digestible as coconut sugar.

Substitute for Refined Sugars

With coconut sugar, you can create all kinds of desserts that are easily available to get ideas from books and on the internet compare to what it was without either one. If the ingredient is processed, avoid them because not only do they unravel your hard work on getting healthy but will get you addicted to it. Your goal is to stay away from it in the long run so you will succeed with the program.

Even though the coconut sugar is somewhat healthy, it’s not on another level. Due to the high content of calories, the recommendation is to use it sparingly. You can also use stevia, which is another natural sweetener with less calories if your main goal is looking to lose weight or trying to maintain your current weight.

Coconut sugar is a good sugar substitute that allows you to avoid regular refined white sugar products in the long run. They may be something to get used to but the taste that you get from will not leave you craving for white sugar products.

Following Paleo Diet Principles

The Paleo diet consists of what nature naturally made and not the processed food that exist these days. It focuses on foods and ingredient that are healthy and can be found in their natural state like fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein sources like beef, chicken and fish and also healthy fats such as seeds and nuts.

If you’re going on paleo with the goal of losing weight then eating meals that contain a lot of vegetables and lean meats like fish, chicken and turkey will allow you to reach your weight loss goals. These are high protein foods that are low in fat. Of course, with poultry like chicken and turkey, you’ll need to take out the skin.
